Holy shit.
Holy fucking shit.
“Wren…shit,” I whisper, then move to the couch to wrap my arms around her. It all makes sense. The look on her face when I told her about Carter wasn’t sadness that I have a kid, they were because she doesn’t have hers. I think back to the day I was handed Carter and thought my life was ending. Wren’s world ended the day they stole her baby from her. “Did you try ever fighting it? Once you were out of the hospital, did you try finding him?”
“I did, but it was futile. My parents were so ashamed of me they made sure I could never get my hands on anything having to do with the adoption. It ruined me. I dropped out of school, lost a handful of jobs, and used every last penny I had saved up for me and the baby.”
“God, babe, I’m so sorry.” I hug her tighter because I don’t know what else to do right now. She’s been holding this in and I almost feel like a dick for rubbing Carter in like I probably did, even though that’s not at all what I was meaning to do. He’s my boy, I’m proud of him and I was even more excited for Wren to meet him.
“There’s nothing I can do but hope that he’s out there and healthy and happy.” She sighs and I’m honestly surprised her eyes are still dry after that. Hell, she’s got me choked up!
“There has to be a way—”
“No,” she cuts me off. “I’ve tried, and I’m ready to move on with my life. I just… I wanted to tell you all along but there was never the right time. I’m starting to feel something for you, Lincoln. Something that made you deserve to know everything about me.” She shakes her head and I press my lips to her forehead.
“Yea, you could say that again,” I mumble.
I love this girl. I fucking love her and I want her to be mine forever.
And though I’ve never met them, I officially hate her parents for doing this to her.
“Do you hate me because I gave my baby away?” She whispers weakly.
I pull back and look at her… I really look at her. Jesus, she’s beautiful and her parents have ruined her.
“I’m not certain I could ever hate you, Wren. I feel sorry for you. I hate your parents for doing this to you, but I don’t hate you.”
“I could have fought them,” she whispers.
“You know that’s a lie.” I press my lips to hers and she wraps her body around mine immediately, melting to my touch.
“I love you, Lincoln West,” she whispers and it feels like something inside me has finally been set free. A weight’s finally been lifted…she fucking loves me!
“Fuck, I love you too Wren.”
“Are we okay?” She stops kissing me long enough to ask. “You’re sure you’re not mad I didn’t tell you sooner?”
I smirk and she grins. “You had to make sure I wasn’t crazy first, right?”
“Right.
